Urban and Rural

Standard

here is one image from my sketchbook from the sketchbook project. there are several things I had in mind when creating this piece. first, the obvious ways in which the united states ignores ecology and how we’re integrally related to the environment. i especially feel angered by the religious right who appropriate religion in order to condemn environmentalism simply because it conflicts with capitalist practices. i hear things like ‘cult of the green dragon’ and chuckle. On the inside, i am deeply saddened and angered. second, i am interested in how civilization/culture consumes nature. how our conceptualizations of nature are always consumed through our cultural constructs. third, i am interested in how our bodies absorb our environments and how my own body has struggled between the urban environment and the rural one. food for though. i’m pretty wasted. last post for the night. ❤
